नास्ति बुद्धिरयुक्तस्य न चायुक्तस्य भावना |
न चाभावयत: शान्तिरशान्तस्य कुत: सुखम् || 66||
nāsti buddhirayuktasya na chāyuktasya bhāvanā ।
na chābhāvayataḥ śāntiraśāntasya kutaḥ sukham ॥ 66 ॥
न जीते हुए मन और इन्द्रियोंवाले पुरुषमें निश्चयात्मिका बुद्धि नहीं होती और उस अयुक्त मनुष्यके अन्तःकरणमें भावना भी नहीं होती तथा भावनाहीन मनुष्यको शान्ति नहीं मिलती और शान्तिरहित मनुष्यको सुख कैसे मिल सकता है?
One who cannot control his senses is one who is lacking in steady wisdom and intelligence, and also lacks proper feelings or sentiments (thoughts). A person who cannot think properly and make decisions with a clear mind, cannot have peace of mind, and without peace of mind there can be no happiness.
इन्द्रियाणां हि चरतां यन्मनोऽनुविधीयते |
तदस्य हरति प्रज्ञां वायुर्नावमिवाम्भसि || 67||
indriyāṇāṃ hi charatāṃ yanmanōnuvidhīyatē ।
tadasya harati prajñāṃ vāyurnāvamivāmbhasi ॥ 67 ॥
क्योंकि जैसे जलमें चलनेवाली नावको वायु हर लेती है, वैसे ही विषयोंमें विचरती हुई इन्द्रियोंमेंसे मन जिस इन्द्रियके साथ रहता है वह एक ही इन्द्रिय इस अयुक्त पुरुषकी बुद्धिको हर लेती है|
The mind of those who run after or pursue material pleasures and sensual objects, is often clouded and let on the wrong path, just as the wind blows away the ship on the waters.
तस्माद्यस्य महाबाहो निगृहीतानि सर्वश: |
इन्द्रियाणीन्द्रियार्थेभ्यस्तस्य प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठिता || 68||
tasmādyasya mahābāhō nigṛhītāni sarvaśaḥ ।
indriyāṇīndriyārthēbhyastasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā ॥ 68 ॥
इसलिये हे महाबाहो ! जिस पुरुषकी इन्द्रियाँ इन्द्रियोंके विषयोंसे सब प्रकार निग्रह की हुई हैं, उसीकी बुद्धि स्थिर है|
O ARJUNA, therefore with senses under control, protected from sensual objects, not only does one have the ability to reason things out properly, but also gains peace of mind leading to eternal bliss and happiness.
या निशा सर्वभूतानां तस्यां जागर्ति संयमी |
यस्यां जाग्रति भूतानि सा निशा पश्यतो मुने: || 69||
yā niśā sarvabhūtānāṃ tasyāṃ jāgarti saṃyamī ।
yasyāṃ jāgrati bhūtāni sā niśā paśyatō munēḥ ॥ 69 ॥
सम्पूर्ण प्राणियोंके लिये जो रात्रिके समान है, उस नित्य ज्ञानस्वरूप परमानन्दकी प्राप्तिमें स्थितप्रज्ञ योगी जागता है और जिस नाशवान् सांसारिक सुखकी प्राप्तिमें सब प्राणी जागते हैं, परमात्मा तत्त्वको जाननेवाले मुनिके लिये वह रात्रिके समान है|
When it is night for all others, the wise man is always awake. When others are aware and deceived (deluded) by sensual objects, the wise man who knows the truth and has realized God, shuts his eyes to daylight and the misleading material objects that attract people, and considers it night. He is not easily deceived.
आपूर्यमाणमचलप्रतिष्ठं
समुद्रमाप: प्रविशन्ति यद्वत् |
तद्वत्कामा यं प्रविशन्ति सर्वे
स शान्तिमाप्नोति न कामकामी || 70||
āpūryamāṇamachalapratiṣṭhaṃ samudramāpaḥ praviśanti yadvat।
tadvatkāmā yaṃ praviśanti sarvē sa śāntimāpnōti na kāmakāmī ॥ 70 ॥
जैसे नाना नदियोंके जल सब ओरसे परिपूर्ण, अचल प्रतिष्ठावाले समुद्रमें उसको विचलित न करते हुए ही समा जाते हैं वैसे ही सब भोग जिस स्थितप्रज्ञ पुरुषमें किसी प्रकारका विकार उत्पन्न किये बिना ही समा जाते हैं, वही पुरुष परमशान्तिको प्राप्त होता है, भोगोंको चाहनेवाला नहीं|
As the river enters the ocean without affecting the ocean or disturbing it, so the desires enter the person who has obtained Supreme peace, but not the person who is already filled with desires and wants more and more.
विहाय कामान्य: सर्वान्पुमांश्चरति नि:स्पृह: |
निर्ममो निरहङ्कार: स शान्तिमधिगच्छति || 71||
vihāya kāmānyaḥ sarvānpumāṃścharati niḥspṛhaḥ ।
nirmamō nirahaṅkāraḥ sa śāntimadhigachChati ॥ 71 ॥
जो पुरुष सम्पूर्ण कामनाओं को त्याग कर ममतारहित, अहंकाररहित और स्पृहारहित हुआ विचरता है, वही शांति को प्राप्त होता है अर्थात वह शान्ति को प्राप्त है|
The Blessed Lord said: By giving up all desires, freeing oneself of all attachments and without constantly thinking of oneself or of one’s possessions, only then, one may live in realistic peace.
एषा ब्राह्मी स्थिति: पार्थ नैनां प्राप्य विमुह्यति |
स्थित्वास्यामन्तकालेऽपि ब्रह्मनिर्वाणमृच्छति || 72||
ēṣā brāhmī sthitiḥ pārtha naināṃ prāpya vimuhyati ।
sthitvāsyāmantakālēpi brahmanirvāṇamṛchChati ॥ 72 ॥
हे अर्जुन! यह ब्रह्मको प्राप्त हुए पुरुषकी स्थिति है, इसको प्राप्त होकर योगी कभी मोहित नहीं होता और अन्तकालमें भी इस ब्राह्मी स्थिति में स्थित होकर ब्रह्मानन्दको प्राप्त हो जाता है|
The Blessed Lord spoke: O ARJUNA, this is the state of a person who has truly realized God. After obtaining Supreme Bliss by realizing God, this person cannot be deceived by any of life’s evils. Until the time of death one remains firm in this state and ultimately achieves Supremr Peace and tranquility.
